Research Interests
Broadly, I am interested in the interactions between social and ecological systems. In urban ecosystems, ecological functioning is intensely altered by human activity, and ecological changes affect issues related to human well-being such as access to nature and the availability of ecosystem services. Specifically, I am interested in the effects of urbanization on pollinator communities, and the ways that local and landscape characteristics affect pollinator communities on an urban to rural gradient. Pollinators are an interesting group of species both because they provide essential ecosystem services and because their abundance and charismatic nature make them ideal for use in public outreach and environmental education.
Personal Interests
I like to spend my free time outside whenever possible, and enjoy hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and birding. When I am not spending time outdoors, I also like to contra dance, play capoeira, and hang out with my cat Moose.
